Gaze of Lot’s Wife

Installation

Andro Dadiani

Instalation
2018

The tunnels through which the Soviet Government used to drag tortured victims of the system was turned into New Chimerion. The venue of this installation was founded by “Tsisperkhantselebi” (Order of the Blue Horns). The Soviet Government destroyed this space of art’s freedom immediately upon their arrival. On one of the walls of the old ”Chimerion” there was a fresco of Paolo Iashvili, (a poet, one of the main ideologists of the Order), depicting him with pigeons around his head against a blue background. This fresco, too, was destroyed upon establishing the Soviet rule. Blood spilled by the Soviet mentality still leaks into our homes from the Soviet Union’s ruins. Our life is saturated with bloodthirst. Constant fragmentation of the society, demonization of the minorities and attacking them is our everyday life. Our society, gazing backwards like Lot’s wife is losing the future, losing the connection with time and space and is slowly turning into a pillar of salt. The Order of the Blue Horns chose red dianthus flowers as their creative symbol, pinning them on their jackets, but during the Soviet era those flowers became a symbol of grief, as they still are today.
